200 Years of Terry

200 Years of Terry

Elijah Terry lived from 1787 to 1850 and was credited with being the first teacher in Bald Hills, now Farmingville, New York. He was a scholarly person, wrote his own books and was also a farmer, as teachers received little pay in those days. He built and lived in his home, now known as the Terry Farm House, from 1823 to 1850. Elijah was married to Caroline Overton Terry.

2023 marked the 200-year anniversary of the Terry House. The Farmingville Historical Society wanted to honor the anniversary with a video to help raise awareness around the significance and restoration of this 1823 home. This parody highlights the 200-year differences between 1823 to 2023 starting Elijah Terry, his wife Caroline, and a modern couple from the year 2023. The script highlights the differences in technology, food, clothing, diversity, and more to help demonstrate how life has evolved in America.
